People Hold On - Noah Reid

These days I get up on Saturday morning and drive to pick up the boys in Callicoon and turn around and drive back to Manhattan, then Sunday evening drive them back upstate and turn around and come home. But until a couple of years ago I kept an apartment in Cochecton and I would take the train up Fridays after work, and we would spend our weekends upstate mostly, and I would take the train back Sunday night.

I remember YouTube Music randomly playing this song one of those Sunday nights when I was on the platform at Secaucus just before midnight, and it struck me and I listened to it regularly for weeks.

Just a few days ago I thought of it and tried and failed to remember and find it. I could only summon some snippet about a last cigarette, and it wasn't enough for Google to help.

Then just tonight it magically popped up in my YouTube Music recommendations. Funny how these things work sometimes.

A couple of friends and I made a video in high school, circa 2001, that I later uploaded to YouTube. You know, for posterity. On a whim I looked at it last night, and after twelve years of accumulating a couple of dozen views, it somehow picked up around 58,000 views in February!

Delighted by such comments as:

"Wow !!! So what was the point of this film. Maybe it should be erased !!!"

"Thumbs down."

and:

"Wtf is happening here"

When I was in elementary school I always made fun of Power Rangers without having actually seen an episode. Now it's on Netflix and my kids are into it and I have to admit it's pretty lame.

Finally got to see Lady Bird last night and was particularly fascinated to discover that it's a "period" film about a girl graduating high school in 2003 (just like me!). The differences between the life of a high school senior then and now are interestingly subtle and huge. Great movie--made me nostalgic for high school...

I really miss the good ol’ days, you know, when it’s like Adrian Adonis, I miss Lou Albano and Andre the Giant, and Bob Backlund and Blue Meanie, and you know, Berserker, Bam Bam Bigelow, and Junkyard Dog, and I miss Conquistador, and I miss Spike Dudley and I miss Dory Funk and Flash Funk and Haas Funk and Terry Funk. It was about the wrestling back then when it was Hillbilly Jim and Bookie and Jerry the King Lawler and when it was Mantaur and Manu. I forgot to mention Lanny Poffo, Leapin' Lanny Poffo.
