Summary

Summer in NYC. Days dominated by work and reeling and fixating over having nuked a 7-month romantic relationship at the end of April. Finished a draft of a novel I'd been working on for about eighteen months, though I first conceived of it around 2008 or 2009 while listening to How to Save a Life on repeat (as many of us were doing at that time) when commuting to and from work. Now I'm having some friends read it for feedback.

Older son has, for the fifth year, been at his six week sleepaway camp in Maine, so the weekends have just been my younger son and me. For the years since my divorce, I drive 2.5 hours upstate Saturday morning to pick up the boys, then straight back to the city where we hang until Sunday evening when I repeat the 5-6 hour roundtrip drive. My life generally feels isolated and empty. Apart from the weekends with the boys, my only consistent bit of human interaction is the Wednesday evening church service.

I don't think I'm manic-depressive but I definitely have seasons. The past couple months were just work and doom scrolling in bed, then the weekends. But I've been trying to turn it around and have started a daily early-morning gym routine, preparing for my first 5K at the end of August. That's mostly what I'm blogging about currently.
