Erstwhile Okie on St. Mark's Place. "That which hath been is now; and that which is to be hath already been; and God requireth that which is past."
Back in January or February, I decided to brighten my dingy little apartment in a way I wouldn't ordinarily think was my style. A big part of it centered around some fabric I bought. As you can see, I used it as wallpaper, a window valance, and curtains. Initially, I trimmed down the curtains and backing, and started to sew the edges (hem?) but was very quickly dissuaded as it seemed like it would take forever, so I just hung them with ragged edges. For the past few weeks, with my kids at summer camp, I had free weekends and thought I'd try to tackle a project so decided I'd give hemming another try. For some reason, this time around, it was the most satisfying, zen thing ever. My stitches are horrendous, but I think they're kind of cute in their crookedness. And you don't really notice at a distance anyway. It's to the point that it's the thing I most look forward to in the day.
